A last goodbye

I like to think that Quintzy has been reunited with some of his playmates.

Quintzy the Snowdoodle

Quintzy loved to play in the snow. And what better place to do so than in Stowe, Vermont, where the stuff stayed white all winter?

He would sit patiently, waiting for one of us to shape a snowball for him to catch.

Ready... Set...

JUMP!!!

Sometimes, it was necessary to find a snowball that had buried itself in a drift.

Catch enough snowballs, and a potty break becomes necessary. Good thing there were plenty of trees handy.

Of course, sitting on a snowbank could be a little tough on the backside.

There were times Quintzy helped us clear a path to the door.

The snow got pretty deep on our deck most years.

Quintzy perfected the 'face shovel' maneuver.
But, winter got old and we got cold (or was it the other way around). We left the snow and ice behind at the end of 2010.

Quintzy's four-legged friends

While Quintzy was first and foremost a 'people' dog, he also made friends easily among the furry set. Here are a few of the friends he made over the years.

Romping with his twin brother, Moccasin, just a few days after both puppies arrived from Australia

Playing with his uncle, Charlie Brown in the spring of 2003

A game of tug-of-war with Truffle on the beach at Chrissy Field, San Francisco. Spring of 2003

With Daphne and Moccasin. Spring of 2003

Sharing a cuddle with 'Popsy' and Cousin JJ. Summer of 2004.

Running on the beach with Rocky. Cochiti Lake, New Mexico. October 2005

With Daphne. Irvine, CA. Winter of 2007.

With his niece, Chloe. Summer 2013.

Come back tomorrow to see our 'Snowdoodle'

The Perfect Host

Quintzy was never happier than when he could receive visitors and show them a good time.

In 2003, at the age of 6 months, he honed his hospitality skills when his Granny Gert visited us in Del Mar, CA

By the summer of 2004, we had moved to Stowe, VT. Quintzy showed off his manner by greeting our first guest with impeccable courtesy.

Then forgot himself and offered an exhuberant hug, which she happily accepted.

He also hosted his Auntie Barb and Uncle Harv when they came to visit.

And kept his Cousin Jake company duirng on a lazy morning in bed.

In 2009, he helped us to welcome Cousin Marcy and Cousin Miranda to our temporary winter home on Sanibel Island, Florida

He loved showing them the dog-friendly beach near our house.

And when his Auntie Barb visited us in La Jolla in 2012, and our cousins, Lucy, Sandy, and Alice drove down from Los Angeles to see her, Quintzy was right in the thick of the action.

Please visit again tomorrow for more Quintzy memories.

Happy Birthdays

We tried to make a practice of taking a photo of Quintzy on each of his birthdays.

1st birthday (2003). The bandana was a gift from his 4-legged uncle, Charley Brown

2nd birthday (2004). One of my all-time favorite photos of our boy

3rd birthday (2005), wearing his 'happy face'

4th birthday (2006). Enjoying a playmate

5th birthday (2007). Celebrated at a pool party.

6th birthday (2008). No presents that year, hence the sad sack face.

Somehow, we missed his 7th and 8th birthday pictures, probably due to travels. But here is a photo taken just a month after his 8th birthday, when he accompanied us on a visit to the dentist.

Checking us in at the reception desk (2010).

9th birthday (2011). Showing off his present.

10th birthday (2012). Sharing his new toy.

11th birthday (2013). Relaxing in 'his' easy chair.

12th birthday (2014). Waiting for his mail outside the Carmel Post Office.

13th birthday (2015). Walking the bluff overlooking Carmel Beach.

Travels with Quintzy. Ottawa 2007.

Quintzy was a wonderful traveler. He loved hopping into the car for a new 'adventure' and went with us just about everywhere. He set foot in almost every one of the lower 48 US states and in three Canadian provinces. In May 2007, we took a drive from Stowe, Vermont (where we lived at the time) to Ottawa, Ontario.

Of course, no trip to Ottawa would be complete without a walk on Capital Hill.

In front of Canada's House of Parliament on Capital Hill.

Greeting a cluster of visitors waitng their turn to tour the parliament buildings.

As always, Quintzy was the center of attention. This was around the back side of the buildings, overlooking the Ottawa River. The building in the distance is the National Gallery of Canada

Quintzy spotted a groundhog (that little furry ball near the shrub) and waited patiently to see which way it would go. It disappeared under the shrub.

Meeting and greeting is thirsty work, and Quintzy stopped for a drink from his water bottle

After the Parliament Hill visit, we took a walk past some of the tulip beds. They were past their peak, but still beautiful.

One of our best friends lives in Ottawa. We visited Krystyna and her mother, Helena, and went for lunch together.

We were invited up to Helena's apartment, where Quintzy expressed his appreciation to his hostess.
Please stop by again tomorrow for more memories of Quintzy.

Quintzy b'shalom

Quintzy
August 2002 to December 2015

We lost our beautiful boy to cancer of the spleen on December 16, 2015. He appeared healthy up until his last few days. He has left a large hole in the hearts of his 'Popsy' and me. This picture was taken on his thirteenth birthday - his Bark-Mitzvah. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and love from friends and family, including the extended worldwide 'doodle' family. We appreciate all of your messages more than we can express.

As a celebration of Quintzy's life, and as a way of thanking everyone for your support, I have assembled a series of photos that capture the highlights of his life. They will appear daily through December 27th.
